Austria's most famous sweet wine "Ruster Ausbruch" has received the DAC status. Thus, the responsible persons have created the first DAC origin regulation exclusively for sweet wine. On the eastern side of Lake Neusiedl, the "Neusiedlersee DAC" designation of origin is also being expanded to include fruit-sweet and noble sweet wines.

The number of Austrian wine designations of origin according to the DAC system thus grows to sixteen. Ruster Ausbruch DAC must therefore meet the requirements of a Trockenbeerenauslese and may be obtained from one or more white quality wine grape varieties. Only botrytis-affected, selectively hand-picked berries from Rust may be used. The sweet wine must also be produced and bottled in Rust

On the eastern side of Lake Neusiedl, the protected designation of origin "Neusiedlersee DAC" applies not only to Zweigelt but also to fruit-sweet wines such as Spätlese and Auslese, and "Neusiedlersee DAC Reserve" to noble sweet wines such as Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese. The indication of the closer origin "Seewinkel" is permitted if the grapes come from the municipalities of Apetlon, Illmitz as well as Podersdorf. With this, the responsible persons want " to take into account the outstanding importance of the area for sweet wines also in the protection of origin".
