Austria now has the world's first digital wine atlas for an entire wine-growing country. Now that Styria has also defined its vineyards, all 5,000 individual wine-growing sites have been recorded and are freely accessible on riedenkarten.at.
The atlas contains information on sunshine hours, average temperature, precipitation, slope, altitude and planted grape varieties of each vineyard, as well as on each wine-growing village and wine region. The tool was developed by Österreich Wein Marketing in cooperation with the University of Vienna over several years. The data is continuously updated and expanded. According to ÖWM in the future, geological information will also be displayed in detail, as managing director Chris Yorke announces: "With riedenkarten.at, everyone interested in wine has the opportunity to explore the places of origin of their favourite Austrian wines down to the last detail."
