The room rental app AirBnB has activated the new accommodation category "Wine Regions", in English "Vineyard", worldwide. It was already tested in Great Britain in 2021 with great success. Currently, more than 120,000 wine-related accommodations can be found in this category, some of them also on managed vineyards. Thus, the online platform takes into account the increased interest in wine tourism. In 2021, the "Vineyard" category generated almost 35 million pounds (41 million euros) in the UK alone. There, AirBnB cooperates with the national association of the English and Welsh wine industry WineGB. According to the platform, on average, each winery has earned more than 9,200 pounds (10,750 euros) from wine lovers who have booked a stay in their accommodation.
According to an analysis by AirBnB, the number of stays at wineries, along with other special offers such as tree houses and historic houses, increased by 120 per cent in 2021 compared to 2019. Currently, however, accommodation near wineries is mainly displayed in many countries. Stays directly on a winery are currently bookable in Croatia, Portugal, Provence and Argentina.
