According to an industry survey by the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA Bundesverband), 24 percent of the hotels and restaurants surveyed are specifically facing closure. While good demand is reported in the holiday regions, operators of city and conference hotels, event caterers as well as clubs and discotheques report sales losses of eleven percent in July compared to July 2019. They also expect sales losses of more than 30 percent in autumn and winter. DEHOGA President Guido Zöllick is calling for measures to increase the vaccination rate and to adapt access rules to the hospitalisation rate. 72 percent of the establishments would keep open, even if access would then only be allowed for vaccinated and recovered persons. Almost 5,500 establishments from all over Germany took part in the snap survey.
