Wine production in France will reach about 44.6 million hectolitres in 2022, 18 per cent above last year's reduced volume due to frost. This was announced by the French Ministry of Agriculture. This means that the expected production is slightly above its first forecast in September of 44 million hl and about four per cent above the five-year average.

The harvest in France, which started very early due to heat and drought, is coming to an end these days. The harvest in Champagne, for example, ended twelve days earlier than the ten-year average. The Ministry of Agriculture expects production there to almost double compared to 2021 due to the favourable weather conditions.

In the Bordelais, the grape harvest already ended in September. However, production there is expected to be five percent below average because spring frost and hail in June damaged many vineyards. In addition, the drought has hindered the growth of the grapes.

The growing regions in the southwest of the country and in Alsace also suffered greatly from the drought. Therefore, experts currently expect about 11 percent less yield in Alsace compared to the average and even 21 percent less in the Sud-Ouest growing region.
