Wines from the Italian Marche region have been able to increase their export share by 33 percent in the past five years. This was announced by the consortium Istituto Marchigiano Tutela Vini (IMT) at an event in Recanati. The most important wine for the development of the region is the Verdicchio white wine from the appellations Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Verdicchio di Matelica. But the smaller growing areas such as those for Rosso Conero, Vernaccia di Serrapetrona, Bianchello del Metauro and Lacrima di Morro have also been able to grow internationally.

One reason for this is that the Marche vineyards are among the most sustainable in Italy: According to the regional Ministry of Agriculture, 39.5 percent of the cultivated area there is farmed organically. This corresponds to 6,991 hectares out of a total of 18,000 hectares of vineyards. This is twice as much as the Italian average.
