The extensive fire "Glass Fire" in the Californian Napa Valley growing region has become the worst fire in its history. In the meantime, 17 wineries have burned down, 215 businesses are currently evacuated, the daily newspaper "San Francisco Chronicle" reports. Among them are the Burgess Cellars, which were recently taken over by the owner of the world-famous Heitz Winery in a widely respected deal. In addition, smoke and fire have completely destroyed the harvests of many other wineries that had previously remained unscathed. The fires could still not be contained by the fire brigade, and due to the wind-hot weather conditions, new fires are constantly being started in the region. Throughout California, the fires have now destroyed more than 1.6 million hectares of land. In the Napa and Sonomay wine regions, some 26,000 hectares are still burning. In the severe fires in 2017, six wineries were last burned down.
