A 50-million wine museum is being built in Verona by 2026. The "MuVin" project was presented at Vinitaly and will be multifunctional with a museum, visitor and exhibition centre. The "MuVin" will be located in the Gallerie Mercatali, a popular venue in Verona. It will cover an area of about 5,400 square metres and include an adventure trail that will take visitors on a journey of discovery. The history of wine, viticulture, wine production, the effects of climate change on viticulture as well as the combination of wine and food are to be thematised. In addition, further training courses are to be offered. At them, wine lovers will learn professional wine tasting techniques and experience virtual visits to wineries and UNESCO vineyards in augmented reality spaces.

"It will be the largest wine museum in Italy and will also have an international appeal," said Enrico Corsi of the Veneto Region, who initiated and promoted the idea. Corsi was inspired by the Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh and the Cité du Vin in Bordeaux. The Cité du Vin is an enormous economic resource for the Bordeaux region, Corsi went on to say, emphasising that such a centre did not yet exist in Italy. The opening of "MuVin" is planned for 2026, when the next Olympic Winter Games will take place in northern Italy.
