At the Wiesbaden Kurhaus, 160 of the most important sommeliers, wine merchants and journalists from 23 countries tasted a total of 421 new Grosse Gewächse from 249 sites of 124 VDP wineries. According to the statutes, these wines may be sold in the trade as of 1 September. Altogether, the 178 current members of the association will sell 620 Grosse Gewächse this year.

The tasting in Wiesbaden is regularly praised by experts as the best organised wine presentation worldwide. Over the course of three days, all wines were brought to the tasters' seats in specially arranged flights of their choice.

On the recently introduced third tasting day with the motto "Everything but Riesling", the wine experts tasted Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir as well as Silvaner and Lemberger, in order to focus on Riesling on the other two days. With over 250 wines, Riesling is the most frequently shown VDP grape variety.

The official premiere tasting for the trade public will take place on 11 September in Berlin as a prelude to the "Tour VDP Grosse Lage". The tour will continue at the beginning of spring 2018 in Munich, Hamburg, Cologne and Oslo.

Already on 10 September, wine lovers can discover over 400 VDP wines from more than 80 vintners in Berlin, including some of the new releases. More information on the events can be found at www.vdp.de.
