Nine of the ten most expensive wines in the world come from Burgundy. This is what the price comparison platform wine-searcher.com found out. The price lists of thousands of retailers worldwide were compared. In total, 44 of the 50 most expensive wines are Burgundy.
The only non-Burgundy wine in the top ten is the Riesling TBA from the German winery Egon Müller - Scharzhofberg. According to the data, the prices of the ten most expensive wines have risen by an average of 41 percent within one year. In contrast, rates for Bordeaux, especially from the Left Bank, have fallen slightly over the past twelve months, as have Italian wines. The ten most expensive wines from Napa Valley increased by 36 percent on average, albeit from a much lower starting price.
The ranking is dominated by Domaine Leroy (picture: Lalou Bize-Leroy) and the associated Domaine d'Auvenay. Last year, three wines from the two estates were among the ten most expensive, this year there are five. Of the 50 top wines, 31 come from these two domains. The three wines from the Domaine d'Auvenay - all white wines - also achieved the greatest price increases with 51, 91, and 92 percent.
According to Wine-Searcher, five wines exceeded the $20,000 per bottle mark this year, compared to three last year.
