The Israeli Wine Producers Association (IWPA), which represents more than 30 wineries, has launched the "Sip for Solidarity" initiative. By buying Israeli wines, the association wants to support wineries whose existence is threatened due to the Hamas terror attack.

As Joshua Greenstein, vice president of the IWPA, said, the grape harvest in Israel had started shortly before the terror attacks. The work now has to take place under the constant threat of attacks, rockets and bombings. In addition, he said, a great many winery staff have been called up for military service. "Without staff, many wineries are facing an imminent crisis. Wine is usually enjoyed over a meal or at a party. But people in Israel don't feel like celebrating these days. This has a negative impact on sales," Greenstein continued.

The "sip for solidarity" directly helps the threatened wineries. Between 1 November and 31 December, the IWPA wants to donate one tenth of the proceeds of every bottle of wine sold to aid projects that benefit the wineries.
