A few days ago, a winegrower in the Var region of southern France was shot at while applying plant protection in his vineyard at night. French media report that two cartridges have been hit in the tank of spray agent attached to the tractor. The man remained uninjured. He heard the shots, but did not attribute them to an attack, he told police. Only after his return did he discover the bullet holes in the tank because the pesticide had leaked. The winegrower was in shock.
According to local media reports, police investigations had shown that the shots had been fired from a distance of about 30 meters. It is now common practice to be filmed or insulted when plant protection is applied, the winegrower emphasized, but never before have winegrowers been shot at.
