The production volume of Prosecco Rosé, which was newly introduced last year, will not be able to satisfy the high demand this year. Producers are preparing foreign buyers for a shortage, as not enough suitable Pinot Noir grapes are available. The newly planted vineyards are not yet all in production, the yields are too low. Prosecco Rosé must be produced from 85 percent Glera and may contain up to 15 percent Pinot Noir. The production rules do not provide for other red varieties.

In 2020, 16.8 million bottles of Prosecco Rosé were produced, which were mainly exported to Great Britain and the USA. The producers as well as the Prosecco DOC consortium were surprised by the great success.
