The white PIWI grape variety Voltis is approved for the production of champagne. This makes it the first resistant variety ever to be accepted into a French appellation. This was confirmed by the responsible French Institute for Origin and Quality (INAO). Since the production rules of the appellation have to be changed for this, there is still a two-month objection period before the approval can come into force. Voltis should also be released for Bordeaux at the beginning of March.
