The Australian winery Penfolds is releasing two wines from its cooperation with the French wine company Dourthe. The Cuvée II consists of Shiraz from Nurioopta, South Australia, and Cabernet Sauvignon as well as Merlot from Bordeaux. The designation II stands for the two winemakers Peter Gago and Frédéric Bonnaffous. This wine is offered for around 340 euros. The second cuvée is called FWT (French Winemaking Trial) 585, in which Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot from the Médoc were vinified using vinification techniques from Penfolds. The FWT 585 will cost around 80 euros.

Both wines are supposed to represent a new interpretation of the terroir of Bordeaux. They will be blended and bottled at Penfolds. The development is influenced by the experiences of the new world. Patrick Jestin, managing director of Dourthe, says: "Pushing the boundaries and producing such a blend was an unexpected and extremely fascinating experience."

Penfolds is honouring its legendary winemaker Max Schubert, who came up with the idea for Cuvée Grange 70 years ago after a visit to Bordeaux, with the collaboration.
