A few days ago, the Federal Cabinet adopted the draft of the revised wine law presented by Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner. It contains the regulations for the transition of the German classification to the Romanesque designation law with Guts-. Orts- and single vineyards. A six-year transition period is now planned for the Großlagen, which have been controversial in the industry for years. After that, from the 2026 vintage, which will go on sale in 2027, the names of areas and large vineyards will be preceded by the term "region" on the label. The use of place names together with a Großlage will also no longer be permitted from that date. If place names are used on the label, i.e. for place and single vineyards, 85 percent of the wine must come from there. This regulation is stricter than previously defined.

All details of the law are currently being worked out by those responsible in the new version of the wine regulation. According to current plans, the new rules are to come into force at the beginning of next year.
