The Austrian wineries were able to increase their exports in the first half of 2020 by 7.4 percent in volume. The value of exports, on the other hand, fell by a total of one percent, reports Österreich Wein Marketing (ÖWM). Especially in Germany and Switzerland, the volume increase was considerable - in Germany by 14.3 percent, in Switzerland even by 31.3 percent. This increase seems to be due to particularly favourable prices: The export value in Germany remained almost constant with a minimal increase of 0.4 percent, while in Switzerland it increased only slightly with 3.5 percent.

With double-digit turnover and sales growth rates, ÖWM assesses the development in the monopoly markets of Sweden, Norway and Canada very positively. In Sweden, Austria bucked the trend, increasing its export value even more strongly than its volume. In contrast, ÖWM reports declines from the USA and Great Britain.
