The Nuremberg-based market research institute GfK has published the 2022 purchasing power for Germany. In the case of wine, the index shows a clear north-south and east-west divide. In first place in the purchasing power index for wine is the city of Munich with an average of 140 euros per capita per year, followed by the districts of Starnberg with 135 euros and Munich with 129 euros. The two districts of Hochtaunus (125 euros) and Main-Taunus (124 euros) come in fourth and fifth. People in Stuttgart still spend 117 euros per capita per year on wine, while in Düsseldorf it is 116 euros per person. The last place is occupied by the Kyffhäuserkreis in the north of Thuringia with an average per capita purchasing power of 69 euros.

Per capita purchasing power is measured by the average available spending potential at the consumer's place of residence and refers to all inhabitants of a region. A per capita figure allows a direct comparison between the purchasing power potential per product range and region.
