Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota has designed the label for the 2021 vintage of Château Mouton Rothschild*****. According to the winery, the work called 'Universe of Mouton' with the striking red balloons shows the 'fragile silhouette of a human figure facing a magnificent, generous nature' and reflects the connection between the two. Berlin-based and international award-winning Chicharu Shiota describes how she was inspired to create the image: "When I visited Château Mouton Rothschild, I was very inspired by their relationship with nature. They are dependent on the weather and do not interfere with nature. They accept the conditions under which the grapes grow. I think Mouton maintains the balance between man and nature. The four lines that connect man to the environment represent the four seasons and all the emotions associated with them, such as loneliness, hope and success. It's like preserving the memory of the year in the wine."
In addition to the release of the new label, Château Mouton Rothschild has partnered with Christie's auction house to offer a unique lot of the wine in various bottle formats. The lot includes the only filled 15-litre Nebuchadnezzar to date, an Impériale (six litres), a double magnum, three magnums and six normal bottles. In addition, the buyer and three guests will be invited to visit Château Mouton Rothschild, attend the unveiling of the 2022 vintage label next year and cook and dine with celebrity chef Yannick Alléno at his three Michelin-starred restaurant Le Pavillon Ledoyen in Paris. The proceeds from the auction will go to the organisation Association Antoine Alléno, which was founded by Alléno after the death of his son Antoine and supports the families of young people who have been victims of violence by third parties. The online auction runs until Friday 8 December.
