The Portuguese wine-growing region Douro is affected by massive snowfall for two days. On 31 March, the snow had already fallen below the 700-metre mark, which is completely unusual for the region, local winegrowers report. In addition to many wineries, well-known port wine producers such as Fonseca and Taylor's were also affected. Normally the temperatures around Easter are mild and sunny with blooming flowers and fast growing vegetation, a producer told "Drinks Business". Whether the vines will suffer greater damage with the weather, he said, could not be predicted at present.
