The president of the Maison Louis Latour, Louis-Fabrice Latour, died a few days ago. He succumbed to cancer at the age of 58.

Maison Louis Latour produces about 750,000 cases of wine per year and is thus one of the largest négociants in Burgundy. Louis-Fabrice Latour took over the management of the house from his father in 1999. Founded in 1797, the estate then already had 114 hectares of vineyards, mostly Premiers and Grands Crus on the hill of Corton. In addition, the house produces wines from the Ardèche and the Var in southern France.

With the purchase of Simonnet-Febvre in Chablis in 2003 and Henry Fessy in Beaujolais in 2008, Latour expanded his company's holdings to six domaines. He cultivated vineyards in lesser-known areas, such as Côteaux de l'Auxois between Dijon and Chablis and Pierres Dorées in southern Beaujolais.

Louis-Fabrice Latour was the eleventh generation to run the company and the seventh to do so with the name Louis. He previously studied at the Paris Institute of Political Studies, an elite school whose graduates include former French President Jacques Chirac. He worked in finance in Paris for two years before joining Maison Latour in 1988 at the age of 24.

Latour is survived by his wife Patricia and his four children Eléonore, Louis, Victor and Gaspard.
