The organically cultivated vineyard area in Italy continues to grow. According to the agricultural statistics office Ismea, the area increased by six per cent to 133,000 hectares in 2022. Organic vineyards therefore account for 22.6 per cent of the total national area. In contrast, however, only six per cent of all wines are marketed with the organic label. This is according to the Ismea report "Organic wine: the numbers of the supply chain updated to 2022". The leading organic regions are Sicily with 36,937 hectares and Tuscany with 22,802 hectares. More than 65 per cent of the certified organic wine-growing area is located in Sicily, Tuscany, Puglia and Veneto.

Since 2010, the organic vineyard area in Italy has increased by 163 per cent, while the number of organic wineries has grown by 93 per cent since 2015. The regions with the most certified organic wineries are Tuscany, Veneto, Piedmont, Sicily and Emilia Romagna.
