In some wine-growing regions of France, new minus temperature records caused frost damage last weekend. In Champagne, for example, temperatures as low as minus 9°C were recorded, the lowest values in April since 1947. In Bordeaux, the thermometer dropped to minus 7°C, in the Loire to minus 6°C. Meteorologists speak of an exceptional situation for April.

As the degree of ripeness and the stage of budding are less developed than in 2021, the damage so far is likely to be less. However, the danger has not yet been averted, meteorologists warn.

With the exception of the Mediterranean and the Rhone Valley, "the risk of frost remains high for the night from Monday to Tuesday south of the Bordeaux - Limoges - Dijon axis", warns Emmanuel Buisson, an expert from the Weenat agricultural weather service.
