Great Britain has been a member state of the OIV again since 1 January 2021. The country already belonged to the international winegrowing organisation from 1973 to 2004. Only recently, the British association ratified the 2001 agreement and thus rejoined the OIV as the 48th member state.

Last year, Great Britain ranked tenth among the most important wine markets in the world and recorded a wine consumption of about 13 million hectolitres. Imports account for a share of more than 95 per cent. Last year, the country was the second largest importer in the world. In addition, the area under vines has grown massively in recent years. Wine and sparkling wine production is currently around 150,000 hl, but is growing at a rapid pace. By becoming a member of the OIV, Great Britain wants to benefit from the cooperation and services of the international network with around 1000 experts.
