The Spanish winery González Byass is offering its famous Tío Pepe sherry in environmentally friendly, reusable glass bottles. Initially, the company only wants to test the reusable bottles in its own restaurants, such as the Bodega Tío Pepe Hotel and the Pedro Nolasco. The initiative is part of the Rebo2vino project, which was launched by the Federación Española del Vino (FEV). It brings together companies and institutions from the wine and glass industry: Minsait (Indra), Verallia Spain, Bodegas Gonzalez Byass Jerez, Familia Torres, Artica Ingeniería e Innovación (artica+i), the UNESCO Chair on Life Cycle and Climate Change ESCI-UPF and, as associate members, the Asociación de Fabricantes y Distribuidores (AECOC, Association of Manufacturers and Distributors) as well as Ecovidrio and Hostelería de España (Hospitality Spain). Rebo2vino is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
The sustainability manager of González Byass, Victoria González-Gordon López de Carrizosa, emphasises the importance of this experiment for the sustainability efforts of the traditional company.
