Jean-François Ganevat from the wine estate of the same name in the Jura and Benoit Pontenier from Prieuré Saint-Jean de Bébian in the Languedoc want to found a company to buy back the two wine estates from the Russian Pumpyanskiy family. This is reported by the French television station France 3 Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The Pumpyanskiy family did not buy Domaine Ganevat until September 2021, and there have been calls on social media to boycott Domaine Ganevat wines because of their Russian connections. Some retailers even took the wines off their shelves.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the EU imposed sanctions on 9 March against the Russian oligarch, steel industrialist Dimitri Pumpyanskiy, and his son, Swiss-Russian citizen Alexander Pumpyanskiy. Benoit Pontenier told France 3 television that Alexander Pumpyanskiy had transferred the assets of both wineries to a holding company on 4 March, just five days before the sanctions were imposed.

Jean-François Ganevat expressed his concern and stressed that he would do everything to protect the formerly family-owned winery and its employees. Ganevat told the French wine magazine Revue du Vin de France that negotiations were continuing but that no final agreement had been reached yet. He assured, however, that Pumpyanskiy would agree to the sale.
