The Italian fashion dynasty Ferragamo has acquired Tenuta Pinino *** (photo). This adds a further 21 hectares to the 84 hectares of vineyards in Montalcino of its Il Borro winery and increases production by around 80,000 bottles. In addition to Sangiovese, Il Borro focuses primarily on international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. "With this acquisition, we can enrich our portfolio with the world-famous Brunello di Montalcino," said Ferruccio Ferragamo, President of Il Borro.
Founded in 1874, Tenuta Pinino has belonged to the family of Spanish-born fashion entrepreneur Max Hernandez since 2003. Il Borro has been owned by the Ferragamo family since 1993 and has been certified organic since 2015. The neighbouring Vitereta estate was purchased in 2019. Il Borro owns several restaurants in Florence, Dubai and London, where Pinino wines will also be served following the takeover.
Two years ago, the president of Ferragamo USA, Massimo Ferragamo, sold the Brunello vineyard Castiglion del Bosco.
