The German Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Viticulture is providing 1.5 million euros over the next five years to promote and research steep slope viticulture in Rhineland-Palatinate. The wine-growing regions of Rheinhessen, Pfalz, Mosel, Nahe and Ahr are located in this federal state. In order to preserve and strengthen this form of viticulture, Federal Minister Julia Klöckner has signed an administrative agreement on research and advisory services with the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. "With this, we want to support the winegrowers and make their work easier, for example through digital applications," said the Minister.

The administrative agreement is intended to promote several research topics: The effects of climate change on steep slope viticulture, environmentally relevant issues, specific challenges for plant protection also in organic viticulture, new pests as well as the digitalisation of steep slope management.

With the extension of the cooperation, which was agreed in 2007, the continuation of the work is now regulated until 2026. From 2027, the partnership is to be continued in the form of a research cooperation.
