At the largest state-wide organic wine award in Baden-Württemberg, an independent jury selected the winners from more than 250 organic wines and sparkling wines submitted on 26 April in Ihringen. The jury consisted of experts from the wine industry, specialist retailers, restaurateurs and wine journalists.

This year, organic winemakers from the Markgräflerland region are the big winners: 13 of the 24 awards went to the far southwest of Germany in 2018. The Kaiserstuhl and Württemberg Unterland were unable to beat the winning region with five awards each. The Stuttgart-Remstal area is represented by one winning wine.

The Abril Winery in Bischoffingen was pleased to receive two winning wines, while the Kaufmann Winery in Efringen-Kirchen, the Köpfer Winery in Staufen-Grunern, the Rieger Winery in Buggingen-Betberg and the Schneider-Pfefferle Winery in Heitersheim each received one award. In the Kaiserstuhl region, the Helde Winery in Jechtingen, Schaffner in Bötzingen and Schmidt in Eichstetten each received a certificate. In Württemberg, the Lauffener Weingärtner and the Weingärtner Stromberg-Zabergäu each received a certificate from the Unterland area, and the Weingut Heid in Fellbach was awarded another certificate for the Remstal-Stuttgart area.

The winning wines were distributed among 15 ECOVIN, Demeter, Bioland and Naturland wineries. Despite the uniformly high standard of the wines, a few wineries managed to receive several certificates at once. The Ruesch Winery in Buggingen, the Zähringer Winery and the Feuerstein Winery, both in Heitersheim, and the Schäfer-Heinrich Winery in Heilbronn each received three awards.

The wines were judged according to their suitability to accompany a menu in seven categories: from sparkling wine as an aperitif, to light white wines, to noble sweet wines for dessert. There were also special prizes for wines of new, fungus-resistant grape varieties.
