The renowned French Domaine E.Guigal in Ampuis (Côte-Rôtie) has taken over Château d'Aqueria in the Tavel region with 68 ha of vineyards. It is the first acquisition of the house in the growing region known for its high-quality rosé wines. In his future work, he wants to focus strongly on terroir and convert the vineyards to organic cultivation.
"I applaud the commercial success of Provence, but Tavel is, in my opinion, the excellence of rosé. Today, however, the wines from Tavel do not have the status they deserve," general director Philippe Guigal told vitisphere.com magazine. He plans to reposition the entire Tavel region and communicate it differently. Guigal further explained, however, that there were no plans to increase the cultivation area of Château d'Aqueria.
Before the purchase, the company had 22 owners and cultivates 40 ha in the AOC Tavel and 28 ha in the AOC Lirac.
