The sales figures of champagne have decreased by 18 percent in 2020 due to the Corona pandemic. This was reported by the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC). According to this, the sales decline is projected at one billion euro. The total turnover of the champagne producers is about four billion euro. "The figures turned out a little better than we expected", Maxime Toubart, deputy president of the CIVC, commented. In France and the most important export countries, the USA and France, sales fell by 20 per cent, and in Japan by as much as 28 per cent. In Australia, on the other hand, sales figures increased by 14 per cent.

According to the figures, a total of around 245 million bottles were sold in 2020, compared to around 300 million in 2019. The CIVC does not expect good figures for the current year either. According to the projections, the sales volume could decline by another third. That would mean a drop in turnover of 1.7 billion euros.
