The Corvers-Kauter winery (Rheingau) has taken over the vineyards of the now defunct traditional Langwerth von Simmern winery in Eltville.

Corvers-Kauter will harvest and vinify part of the grapes from the 2018 vintage already this autumn. From 2019 onwards, the vineyards will be cultivated entirely under their own management, the winery announced.

Corvers-Kauter has leased a total of 15 hectares of vineyards on a long-term basis. From Langwerth von Simmern hthe contract includes renowned vineyard parcels in the Erbacher Marcobrunn, Hattenheimer Nussbrunnen and the Rauentaler Baiken.

"Up to now, we were represented in fillet parcels of the Rüdesheimer Berg and in Oestrich-Winkel, but through the expansion we have now added even more Grand Cru areas of the Rheingau to our portfolio of sites," said Dr Matthias Corvers.

With the conversion of the Langwerth vineyards to certified organic viticulture, the Corvers-Kauter winery will continue to implement its philosophy. "Individual wines should be created here that directly reflect their character, their unique terroir." To this end, the winery has been using almost forgotten techniques for several years, such as pressing with a basket press and ageing the wines in classic wooden barrels.
