Comité Champagne

According to the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC), the average weight of the grapes in the Champagne harvest, which started on 2 September, is a record 220g. This is significantly higher than the previous peak of 175 g in 2005, which will have an impact on the overall yield. According to the Comité Champagne, most producers will use the individual reserve. The permitted yield for AOC Champagne has been set at 11,400 kg/ha for this year, with the individual reserve a total of 15,500 kg/ha may be harvested.

Despite the wet weather in August, which favoured the formation of botrytis, 2023 is considered to be a calm and trouble-free vintage until then. According to Maxime Toubart, President of the Syndicat Général des Vignerons and Co-President of the Comité Champagne, "these numerous and generous grapes allow us to select only those that are in perfect health." Even if winemakers select only perfect grapes, they should be able to exploit the maximum yield without any problems.
