The French police have seized more than 1,160 stolen bottles of wine and arrested ten people in connection with burglaries in Burgundian wine estates last year. In a joint operation, 60 police officers from three regions already searched several houses in Lyon and Toulouse at the end of February. In the process, the officers arrested ten people and seized the wine, which was probably stolen in two thefts in July and October 2020. The bottles are part of the loot taken by burglars from the Domaine Philippe Chavy in Puligny-Montrachet in July 2020.
The owners Philippe and Graziella Chavy told local media that a total of about 2,000 bottles had been stolen from them. According to them, the thieves had taken the best vintages of the winery from appellations like Meursault, Meursault Narvaux, Meursault Charmes, Puligny Folatières and Puligny Pucelles. The bottles found by the police also belong to the Domaine Sangouard-Guyot (Mâconnais), which was broken into last October. There, the thieves took 850 bottles of wine from the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation worth about 10,000 euros. In a statement, the police said that the investigations had broken up an organised criminal distribution network.
