The Italian wine company Marchesi Antinori is taking over all shares of the top winery Stag's Leap Wine Cellars in Napa Valley from Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. The two companies announced that Antinori, which has already held a minority stake in the winery since 2007, will buy the remaining 85 percent from Ste. Michelle. The transaction is to be completed by the end of June.

In a statement, Piero Antinori, honorary president of Marchesi Antinori, said: "There are few occasions in life when a winery as important and historic as Stag's Leap is available. I must thank Ste. Michelle Wine Estates for this great opportunity."

"It is a source of pride for me and my family to have the opportunity to fulfil the promise I made to my friend Warren Winiarski 16 years ago to preserve the heritage and values of such a renowned winery as Stag's Leap Wine Cellars," Antinori added. The Antinori family has been present in Napa Valley since 1985.
