In 2021, 17,400 hectares of vineyards were sold in France for around 1.1 billion euros. This results in an average price of about 65,000 euro per hectare. This was announced by the National Association for Land Development and Rural Settlement (SAFER).
While the number of transactions and hectares sold increased, enormous regional differences can be seen. For vineyards with protected designation of origin (PDO), the average price dropped by 1.7 percent to 147,900 euro per hectare, with Champagne even dropping by six percent.

Remarkable increases were recorded in the south of France due to the rosé boom, and in Cognac (+6 per cent), as many as 2,300 hectares were newly planted to meet demand. In Bordelais, on the other hand, the situation is mixed. While prices continue to rise for prestigious appellations such as Saint-Julien and Pauillac as well as organically farmed areas, they have been falling for years in the Bordeaux appellation as a whole. Prices are also falling in Alsace and the vineyards on the Rhine.

The appellations with the ten highest average prices per hectare in 2021 were the Grand Crus from Burgundy with over 7 million euros (+4.5 per cent compared to 2020), Pauillac (3 million euros, +7 per cent), Pomerol (2 million euros per hectare, same value as 2020), Champagne - Côtes des Blancs (1.66 million euros, +4.4 per cent), Côte-Rôtie (1.2 million Euros, +4 per cent), Champagne-Grands Crus and Premiers Crus Montagne de Reims (1.1 million Euros, -7 per cent), Champagne Sud Marnais (1.1 million Euros, -3.5 per cent), Champagne-Vallée de la Marne, de l'Ardre ede la Vesle (907,000 Euros, -12 per cent), Champagne-Aube (888,000 Euros, -4.2 per cent) and Champagne-Aisne (814,000 Euros, -5 per cent).
