The Swiss-born Moselle winemaker Daniel Vollenweider **** succumbed to cancer last week. After studying at the Wädenswil Viticulture Centre, he practised at the Georg Fromm winery in Switzerland and with Dr Loosen on the Moselle, among others. In 2000, with little equity, he founded his own small winery in Traben-Trarbach with extreme steep slopes in the Wolfer Goldgrube. The first collection of the 2001 vintage already caused a sensation. Since then, Vollenweider has established himself in the top group of Mosel wineries. Companions recall the fresh wind and the new style that he brought to the region. Since 2019, he has managed the now six-hectare winery together with Moritz Hoffmann.
