Wine bottled in flax fibre bottles? The world of packaging is evolving, innovating and adapting to societal demand for more sustainable development.

Green Gen Technologies (GGT), a French start-up, will produce 50,000 bottles of flax by the end of the year in a beta test workshop in Portet sur Garonne (France). The project plans to produce 500,000 bottles in 2023 and 2 million in 2024, depending on the level of the order book. The first series of bottles can already be ordered by the winegrowers. In 2024/2025, a highly automated and autonomous 4.0 factory will be created to produce 30 million bottles in flax fibre!

GGT offers 3 bottle containers: two for 75 cl wines (Burgundy and Bordeaux) and one for spirits.

Why a flax fibre bottle? Flax fibre is a renewable and biodegradable plant resource. It should be noted that France is the leading producer of flax in the world. This flax fibre is combined with a biosourced resin. Ten times lighter than a traditional bottle, these flax fibre bottles have a reduced greenhouse gas emission balance.
