The Veneto Region has formed a scientific working group with the Universities of Padua and Verona and the wine consortia to combat American grapevine cicada. The aim is to exchange data and strategies in the fight against the vine disease flavescence dorée. It is transmitted by grapevine cicadas (Scaphoideus titanus) and is also known as "golden yellowing".

The cooperation agreement to set up a plant protection trial project in viticulture is intended to gather "new information on the actual effectiveness of the currently approved active substances on the various developmental stages of the insect" in order to be able to prevent its spread as effectively as possible.
