Steffen Christmann was unanimously re-elected as president for another three years by the general meeting of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) on 28 June in Münster-Sarmsheim (Nahe). The vice-presidents Joachim Heger (Weingut Dr. Heger, Ihringen, Baden) and Reinhard Löwenstein (Weingut Heymann-Löwenstein, Winningen, Mosel), on the other hand, did not stand for re-election "in order to make room for young talent", the VDP's statement said. Thus, the presidium will be reduced from six to four persons and at the same time expanded with a "co-optation of winemakers of the next generation".

Initially, Julian Huber and Friedrich Keller from Baden, Sebastian Fürst from Franconia, Caroline Diel and Cornelius Dönnhoff from the Nahe as well as Peter-Bernhard Kühn from the Rheingau belong to the extended management level. Further appointments are to follow.

Furthermore, the VDP members decided to switch to the use of lightweight glass bottles for estate wines in the spirit of sustainability. They currently account for 60 per cent of production in the VDP and could "bring about a remarkable reduction in CO2 emissions". Moreover, the bottle could also be used in higher classification levels. In parallel, the VDP is working on a lighter bottle especially for Grosse Gewächse.
