Seven people were arrested in Bordeaux for human trafficking. They allegedly smuggled several dozen harvest workers, including a 14-year-old child, from Romania to France. As reported by the French news agency AFP, the public prosecutor's office of Libourne (Gironde) has charged seven people in Bordeaux with "organised gang trafficking in human beings" as well as "concealing an offence" and "subjecting vulnerable persons to unacceptable working and accommodation conditions". Those arrested come from three different municipalities, including Saint-Émilion.

The number of charges of exploited persons in the wine industry has "increased in recent years", the Libourne public prosecutor's office said. Already in spring, three people had been convicted of trafficking Moroccan vineyard workers in the Gironde region.

Investigations into human trafficking were also launched in Champagne in September. There, collective shelters that had been deemed unhygienic and undignified were closed by the authorities.
