The German Wine Institute (DWI), in cooperation with the trade magazine Wein+Markt, has once again awarded the best specialist wine retailers in Germany. The "Edelfrei GenussVinothek" in Bamberg landed in first place this year, followed by the Ludwigburg branch of Wein-Moment and the Willenbrock wine shop in Rheine. The award winners were honoured on 15 October 2023 in Bremen's Ratskeller. "An award like the specialised trade award is extremely helpful, especially in difficult times, to strengthen customer loyalty and to give new impetus to turnover and sales," said Andreas Kaul, head of the specialised trade department of the DWI.

The jury paid particular attention to a clear presentation of wines from as many German wine-growing regions as possible as well as to the depth and breadth of the range. The shop ambience, advice, tasting options, customer-oriented service as well as events and promotions were also judged. The Edelfrei GenussVinothek convinced the experts with its very large assortment from Germany. The German share is almost 100 percent. The vintners include young newcomers as well as established vintners from ten German wine-growing regions. A large selection of upmarket delicacies and stylish accessories rounded off the range. The Ludwigburg branch of Wein-Moment convinced the jury with its relaxed atmosphere and bright, modern shop fittings. "Numerous events, such as open wine tastings with titles like Brutal Regional, after-work parties, Wine & Speeddatings or Yoga & Wine open up access to primarily German wines to young people in particular through a playful way," the jury assessment stated. "Many things that can be done right in the future-oriented wine trade are implemented here," the jury praised the Willenbrock wine shop in Rheine as the third-place winner.

In addition to trophies, certificates and plaques, the three winners of the specialised trade award will also receive merchandise vouchers as well as vouchers for staff training with a total value of 6,000 euros. They will also be appointed to the jury for the election of the German Wine Queen 2024 in Neustadt an der Weinstraße.
