The Austrian energy drink company Red Bull has asked the Sardinian winemaker Mattia Muggittu to change his wine label. The logo on the bottles of the small winery "Muggittu Boeli" in Mamoiada shows too much resemblance to the Red Bull logo. The vintner had first received a letter from a Turin lawyer telling him not to use the logo anymore.

The 23-year-old had already registered his logo with the patent office last October. It shows two oxen standing side by side, with a red plough underneath. "We have in no way imitated Red Bull's logo. Our label is a tribute to the winemaking traditions of Mamoiada. You don't see bulls on it, but oxen, which are a symbol of our viticulture," Muggittu told the press.

After Muggittu had resisted Red Bull's warning, Red Bull filed an opposition application against the registration of the trademark. Now Muggittu has sought help from the Italian farmers' association Coldiretti, whose lawyers are now examining how to proceed. Both parties have until mid-March to settle their dispute, then the patent office will decide.
