Lena Göth from the Baum winery in Ingelheim (Rheinhessen) has started a photo project with which she wants to increase the visibility of women in the wine industry. She is not only concerned with trained female winemakers, but also with women who work in the background at the wineries. "I am committed to women in agriculture and the wine industry because only eleven per cent of farms in agriculture have been run by women so far. Even today, there are still significant barriers to entry for women. These include outdated gender images and inheritance regulations. Around 40 percent have no employment contracts. They are far too often poorly protected in old age, for example in the case of divorce, separation or death," Lena Göth explains her motivation.

The photos collected for the project are digitally put together as a video in a collage. It will be shown at the election for Rhine-Hessian Wine Queen on 9 September. Göth is running for Rhineland-Hesse Wine Queen and, if she wins, wants to encourage women to exchange ideas and work out solutions together with their male colleagues. She says her main concern is to give women more space and appreciation in the wine industry.

Women from Rheinhessen who would like to participate in the project can send Lena Göth a photo by e-mail. By sending it, they agree that it may be used and published for the project. The deadline is 06 August.
