Many wineries in Burgundy in France are converting to organic farming. In 2020, 17 percent of the vineyards or 5,700 hectares were already certified, and the areas in the conversion phase are even larger. Agnès Boisson of the BioBourgogne association, estimates that by the end of 2021, around 30 percent in the Côte d'Or will be farmed organically. She says: "The wineries are not making the changes lightly. They are aware that they have to change their practices, but not at any price." She says many farms have been working towards conversion for a longer period of time and have made necessary investments. Cooperatives are also among the farms that are ready for change. "They are not burying their heads in the sand. Many of them have managed to offer an organic range with a few member farms and to promote it," says Boisson.
