The researchers of the Edmund Mach Foundation in Trentino and the Wine Institute of the University of Bordeaux (ISVV) have signed a framework agreement for cooperation. With this, they want to create synergies and jointly tackle the challenges of European viticulture. The protocol was signed by the Director General of the Edmund Mach Foundation, Mario Del Grosso Destreri, and the Director of the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences in Bordeaux, Prof. Alain Blanchard. Previously, the researchers of the institutes had exchanged their scientific focal points and held various discussions in thematic working groups in order to plan the next joint research projects. The agreement covers all areas of viticulture and oenology without neglecting the ecological and social impacts, said the director of the French institute, Alain Blanchard.

Common goals include promoting the sustainability of the wine sector. Thus, the use of chemicals and pesticides is to be reduced by monitoring the most important plant diseases. Furthermore, strategies for the adaptation of vines to climate change as well as various diseases and the use of genome editing techniques are on the agenda In Focus.
