The Fitou and Corbíères appellations have cancelled their membership of the Languedoc inter-branch organisation Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin du Languedoc (CIVL). This will take effect at the end of 2023. The withdrawal was preceded by internal controversies. The two appellations are no longer in agreement with the orientation of the communication. The responsible persons accuse the Languedoc association of concentrating too much on the requirements of the big producers and of neglecting the appellations as well as the direct marketers. Moreover, no representatives of the direct marketers were invited to the election of the president of the CIVL on 2 July 2021, which contradicts the statutes of the CIVL. Direct marketers account for 47 per cent of production in the AOP Fitou, and 55 per cent in Corbières.

While the Corbières leaders are still hoping for negotiations to settle the dispute, Fitou stressed that its withdrawal is final. The members of the Malepère appellation, who had also threatened to quit after the July 2021 election, decided to remain in the CIVL at an extraordinary general assembly in April.

The Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin du Languedoc (CIVL) is a state-recognised private organisation that aims to unite all economic actors in the regional wine sector, producers and marketers.
