The renowned Californian winery Heitz Wine Cellars has been sold to the US billionaire Gaylon Lawrence from Arkansas. However, the world-famous Martha's Wineyard, with which Heitz became known worldwide, is not part of the transaction. Heitz only buys the grapes from the owners of the vineyard, the May family. "We feel that now is the right time for us to transfer the vineyard into other hands," said Kathleen Heitz Myers.
Robert Boyd was appointed as the new president and managing director. He has worked for Jackson Family Wines for a long time and was recently appointed president of Joseph Phelps Vineyards. The winery has become very well known with its "Insignia" wine. The new owner, Gaylon Lawrence, comes from a farming family and has made his fortune as an investor as well as owner of agricultural businesses and a bank. Nothing has been revealed about the purchase price.
