The German Wine Institute (DWI) has honoured the best wine restaurants for the ninth time with a high-calibre jury. The award-winning establishments are particularly committed to wines from German regions. The expert jury chose the High Fidelity wine bar in Stuttgart as the best "wine restaurant" of the year. Sommelier Bernd Kreis has an original concept here: Peruvian cuisine and an excellent selection of wines to match. Jazz fans also get their money's worth here, as the bar plays records from all genres.

The winner in the "Regional Gastronomy" category is the hotel and restaurant "Zum Krug" in Hattenheim. Owner Josef Laufer impressed the judges with his extraordinary cellar with wines from the Rheingau in great depth, dating back to the 1937 vintage.

The Spa & Golf Resort Weimarer Land in Blankenhain (Thuringia) was honoured in the "Hotel Gastronomy" category. With a total of seven restaurants, guests can experience an enormous culinary variety with an equally extensive selection of wines. Sommelier Thomas Stobbe has focussed on local wines, with the Saxony and Saale-Unstrut regions taking up a large part of the menu.

The winner in the "General Catering" category is the "Kühler Grund" restaurant in Hattingen. Restaurant manager Philipp Diergardt, himself a chef and trained winemaker, offers his guests good and great wines at a fair price in his restaurant.

In the "Upscale Catering" category, the award went to the "Fachwerk" restaurant in the Hotel Stadt Kassel in Rinteln. In recent years, Kerstin and Moritz-Christian Brand's restaurant has become a favourite destination for wine fans in southern Lower Saxony.

The "Gourmet Restaurant" category was won by the Munich restaurant Tantris Maison Culinaire. The wine list has always been rich in tradition with a focus on classic regions. The sommelier trio Julian Grunwald, Pit Spanke and Johann Artner are responsible for the wine selection.

The "Selters Special Prize" went to the Romantik Hotel Spielweg in Münstertal (Black Forest), which has been run by the Fuchs family for several generations. Sommelier Sebastian Muckenhirn curates the regional wine list with a focus on Baden.

"This year, the quality of the entries was particularly high, which didn't make it easy for the jury. The selected catering establishments are all wonderful examples of how local wines can be harmoniously integrated into the respective catering concept and attractively presented," said DWI Managing Director Monika Reule after the winners were announced.
