Gerard Bertrand, one of the most famous winemakers in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France, has presented the most expensive rosé crémant of the region to date. The "Ballerine Crémant de Limoux rosé", aged 36 months, costs around 40 euros in Germany.
Bertrand wants to position it as a "sparkling wine icon" in competition with champagnes like Billecart-Salmon. He is counting on the public's great interest in rosé wines. He currently generates about 30 percent of his sales with rosé, he told "Drinks Business". In France, more rosé than white wine is now drunk. The ageing potential of this category is also underestimated. He wants to organise a vertical tasting with ten vintages soon.
